![]() ![]() (Though Fender did introduce a 32" P Bass later) Dan told me it was a one-of-a-kind prototype that they were looking to build but after going through the process to make it a "real P Bass", (tuned in std bass tuning E, A, D, G) he discovered that it didn't cost any less to make a small than it did a big one! It was made by Fender Japan. On the wall in his office was a small red P Bass. He graciously invited me into his office and we hung out for much of the morning talking Fender. I had meet Dan a few years earlier when he was traveling in the field and had come into to the store. (RIP - if you don't know who that is, shame on you! Google and learn!) While he was working, I roamed the halls (FMIC was a very small company at this point!) and ran into the man who is seen as the designer that brought Fender back under Bill Schultz, (Think original Vintage Series, Eric Clapton Strat, original Am Std Series, etc.) Mr. In January of 1990, I attended the NAMM show in CA as a buyer for a retail store I was managing, Gordon Miller Music in Towson, MD.Īfter the show I stayed in CA with a friend who worked for Fender then in Brea.
